Measurements:
Generally at least two blankets are used in printing and sometimes as many as four. The number and thicknesses will be determined by the plate. A general rule is the finer the plate the finer the blanket and the more deeply bitten the plate then the thicker the blankets. The heaviest blanket should be placed closest to the roller with the finer blanket closer to the paper.
It is advised that blankets be hand washed gently using wool wash and warm water. To dry the blankets run them through the printing press to expel the majority of the water. Do not wring the felts as the are less durable when wet and may become damaged. Lay the felts on a flat surface between layers of blotter paper to finish drying. When drying felt etching blankets do not hang the felts on a clothes line or over an edge as this may damage the felts.
Blankets can be cut to preferable size using a straight edge and a strong sharp knife. However generally sugguested for professionals.
