The metal equipment in a studio is corroded by the vapours, too. Etching without toxic fumes and aerosols is the main advantage of using a copper sulphatesolution. When etching aluminium or zinc with copper sulphate a minute amount of hydrogen gas is produced; more with aluminium, less with zinc.
