Global Colours Professional Slow Open Medium is a crystal clear additive to extend the drying or 'open' time of Global Colours Acrylics and Mediums. Open Medium is an ideal additive in stain-painting hard edge work, antiquing and other folk art techniques where increased flow is required. Get more workability for ‘’wet in wet’’ techniques. Brilliant wash effects and water colours can be obtained by combining Open Medium with water and Glazing Medium, leaving the paint more water sensitive. Artists will find open medium helpful in use of blending techniques. Blending may be made wet-over-dry as well as wet-on-wet. Due to its wetting properties it us also ideal for pasting powdered pigments.
Open medium is a concentrated product and should be used sparingly. It may be added to paint by dipping brush into it as you go or spread over an area to be worked on first. Do not add more than 10% medium to paint or problems such as shrinkage and poor adhesion may occur. The climate of one's environment will affect the speed at which paint dries. May be applied to an area prior to painting for wet on wet techniques. Keep paint film moist by using an atomiser spray bottle filled with water or retardant medium mixed with water. Paint containing Open medium may appear to be touch dry but may be reactivated by water. It can take up to 5 days to cure completely unless force dried. Any varnish should be carried out with this in mind. Clean all equipment with soap and water.
All Global Colours and mediums are compatible and work together as a range to create a highly versatile system for all artists.
Global Colours Acrylic Paints, Mediums, and Gesso Primers have been handmade in the Marrickville factory in Sydney, Australia since 1992.
